Netflix Prize

commendo research & consulting has its origins in the project team BigChaos, who not only stood its ground among 51,000 teams from 186 countries in the global Netflix Prize, but also forged ahead into the top ten, with even holding the lead temporarily. BigChaos was Progress Prize Winner 2008 as well as Netflix Grand Prize Winner.

Netflix Grand Prize Winner

On September 21, 2009 Netflix officially announced the combined team "BellKor's Pragmatic Chaos" (BigChaos, BellKor and PragmaticTheory) as winner of the Netflix Grand Prize. Team commendo, together with scientists of AT&T Research, Yahoo! and Pragmatic Theory came out as winner in this highly remunerated competition (1,000,000 USD)!

Progress Prize Winner 2008

In late 2008, the combined team of BellKor together with BigChaos attained great success. The commendo team and scientists of AT&T Research scooped the Progress Prize, highly remunerated with 50,000 USD!

The competition (2006-2009)

The Netflix Prize was advertised by the world's largest online DVD and BluRay Disc rental service Netflix.com and comprised a prize money of $ 1,000,000. The challenge was to make the Netflix' recommender system more efficient by 10 %.
BigChaos, now commendo were placed far in front of many reknown companies and universities. During the last years, they were able to generate wide knowledge in the fields of recommender systems, optimally combined algorithms and machine learning.

Team BigChaos was founded by Andreas Töscher and Michael Jahrer in 2006. At the beginning of 2008 Michael Schrotter and Georg Preßler joined the team.
